गुरुब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः।
गुरुः साक्षात्परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवेनमः॥
gurubrahmā gururviṣṇuḥ gururdevo maheśvaraḥ |
guruḥ sākṣātparabrahma tasmai śrī guravenamaḥ ||
guru – the supreme teacher, brahmā – Brahma, guru – the supreme teacher, viṣṇu – Visnu, gurur – the supreme teacher, deva – supreme deity, maheśvaraḥ – the Lord of beings,guruḥ – the supreme teacher, sākṣāt – embodiment, parabrahma – the supreme Brahman, tasmai – onto Him, śrī gurave – The Guru, namaḥ – Obesciences
Literal: The supreme teacher is Brahma, the supreme teacher is Visnu, the supreme teacher is the supreme deity maheshvara. The supreme teacher is the embodiment of the supreme Brahman and onto him our obesciences.
Interpretive: The Supreme teacher is Brahma, Visnu and Shiva the Lord of all beings. The supreme teacher is the ]complete] embodiment of the Supreme Brahman [declared in the Vedas] and onto him [I offer my] obesciences.
